ADVANTAGES OF CT SCANNING VS. OPTICAL SCANNING

Unlike optical scanners that have challenges in scanning tight-spaced anterior teeth, CT scanners use multiple x-ray measurements taken from different angles of a dental impression, where high-energy X-ray radiation can easily penetrate through the whole impression, which contains relatively low-density material (including impression material and plastic tray) to render digital x-ray images for the 3D reconstruction process. Therefore, CT-scanned 3D models don’t have the same limitations as optical scanning.
